As a team, we are able to dedicate our attention towards creating a detailed management plan for each patient. Our goal is to help pediatric patients return to their normal activities as quickly as possible. We strive to give parents and patients all the resources they need for recovery from a concussive injury

  • Emily Woodard

    Emily F. Woodard

    MSN, APRN, CPNP, Credentialed ImPACT Consultant

    With nearly two decades of experience as a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Emily Woodard, MSN, APRN, CPNP, helps children return to their normal activities as quickly as possible after suffering concussive injuries. She practices from the SportsSafe office in Austin, Texas. Emily is a native Texan and grew up in Sugar Land, a Houston suburb. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 1999 from Texas A&M University and then received a Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin.  

    Emily has a diverse work background including 10 years at a school-based clinic in Del Valle, 3 years at Child Incorporated in Austin, and 2 years as faculty in The UT School of Nursing Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program.   She has been a part of the Pediatric Associates of Austin Team since 2008 when she began working at After Hours Kids.  Her role expanded in 2010 when SportsSafe Concussion Brain and Body was created by Dr. Aiello.  She currently works at SportsSafe, After Hours Kids, and at Pediatric Associates of Austin; Emily loves the diversity of these three unique roles. 

    She married a wonderful man in January 2015 and inherited a remarkable teenage step-son.  She and her family live in Georgetown and travel to Wimberley often to visit family.  Emily is an active member of The Fellowship Round Rock, and in her free time, she enjoys traveling, mission trips, refinishing furniture, antique shopping, and spending time with friends and family.

    Brooke Gonzalez


    Brooke was born and raised in northern New York. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Rochester in 2002, graduating summa cum laude. She worked as a pediatric RN for 5 years in the Children’s Hospital of Austin before going on to receive her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. She became a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in 2007. Brooke is bilingual (fluent in Spanish) and has gained a wide variety of experience working with children from the Andes mountains of Ecuador to our fine city of Austin. She has over a decade of experience as a PNP and extensive knowledge through her previous work in pediatric urgent care, primary care pediatrics, and pulmonology, as well as personal experience raising her four beloved children.

    Investing time in getting to know her patients and their families is important to Brooke as she strives to provide holistic care and address their concerns to the best of her ability. She endeavors to make the most medically conservative and preventative approach in caring for each child. Brooke is an active member at Austin Oaks Church where she loves to help lead worship. In her free time she enjoys quality time with family and friends, listening to and making music (especially with her children), hiking, running, cycling class, reading, and cooking (especially if someone helps with the dishes).

    Amber Mercer

    Amber S. Mercer



    Amber Mercer, MSN, APRN, CPNP, is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner dedicated to caring for children throughout Austin, Texas, and helping them safely enjoy an active lifestyle at SportsSafe. 

    Originally from Houston, Texas, Amber grew up spending most of her summers volunteering at a family friends’ privately owned hospital. This is where she became fond of the nursing profession. Amber comes from a multi-generational family of devout Longhorn graduates, and to follow suit, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012 from The University of Texas at Austin. She then received a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University in 2018, where she became a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

    Amber began her career as a Registered Nurse at Pediatric Associates of Austin, where she has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know and care for all of the children and their families for the past six years. She is grateful to have worked with such knowledgeable, genuine providers, nurses, and staff during that time. She truly believes she has learned from the best and will continue to grow in order to provide the greatest care for the patients of Pediatric Associates of Austin and SportsSafe.

    Amber looks forward to her spare time with family and friends. Her husband, Patrick, works as the Health and Wellness Director at Frost Insurance. With both of their careers being centered on health, they spend the majority of their time hiking or exercising with their rescue dog, Bingham. They also enjoy trying new recipes and local restaurants, traveling, and seeking out local Texas Country artists around Austin. They are active members of Austin Stone Community Church and cherish the relationships they have made through community groups and outreach.

    Erin Moore


    Erin was born and raised in Ohio before she left to pursue her big city dreams in Chicago. She attended nursing school at Loyola University Chicago and traded snow for sunshine in Austin.

    She worked as a critical care nurse at Dell Children's Medical Center for 3 years. Erin obtained her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania in 2014. She returned to Austin and worked in pediatric primary care and pediatric neurology at Dell Children's Medical Center for 3 years. She started working at After Hours Kids in November 2018.

    Erin is a world traveler, avid coffee drinker, and loves to spend time with her two rescue dogs, Magic and Milo. Erin is on the board for pediatric nurse practitioners (NAPNAP) in Austin. She is also a member of The Junior League Austin where she works to provide food for children in undeserved areas of Austin.

Our Medical Director
Dr. Lance Hargrave, MD, FAAP.

Dr. Hargrave grew up in several towns across Texas and graduated from Westwood High School in Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University and received his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed his pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine.  During his residency, he treated patients at both Texas Children's Hospital and Ben Taub Hospital.Dr. Hargrave is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Travis County Medical Society and serves on the peer review and credentialing committees for the Seton Hospital and the Seton Physician Hospital Network.  He also provides general pediatric services for the Texas School of the Blind and Visually Impaired.  

With 3 boys at home, Dr. Hargrave is very familiar with sports and sports-related injuries.  In addition to caring for children and adolescents as a pediatrician for over 15 years, his personal experience with his sons prepared him well to become the medical director of SportsSafe in March 2016.

Dr. Hargrave is an active member of his church. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and boys, cycling, reading, music, and Legos.

Dr. Leslie Aiello, MD, FAAP, Credentialed ImPACT Consultant

Now retired from seeing patients, Dr. Aiello practiced in Austin for over 35 years with Pediatric Associates of Austin. His physician peers have recognized him repeatedly as one of the best pediatricians in Texas and America.

After treating adolescents with concussions for many years, he decided a more comprehensive concussion management program was needed to help manage these patients. Dr. Aiello's goal is to make SportsSafe the clinic of choice for concussion evaluation and management.
